Role reversal?

Has anyody found that in this lousy economy, the roles of "father" and "mother" are often turned aorund and upside down?

What I mean is, of all the people I know, I know 1 family where "Mom" stays home and "Dad" is the figurative bread winner, comes home to a cooked meal, and finances seem like they are OK.

It seems to me in my world-and maybe yours too- that parents will do anything they can to take care of the kids, and the bills, and that includes role reversal. Dad stays home when the kids are sick, cuz Mom makes more and they can't afford for her to miss another day of work...Gramma thankfully lives around the corner, and picks up baby twice a week for an hour so Mom can finish the last hour of her second job...Dad travels every weekend to Boston for that lucrative-but away from the family- job so he can keep saving for the children's education.

Maybe the "simpler times" seen here weren't so simple...but man, what I would give for even the chance to make it a simple time, without cell phone bills, cable, 2 cars, 2 jobs, a mortgage in a house that would never sell- if we had to- in this market...you get the idea. I ove being a DAD, but how did my Dad-and his Dad- do it on 1 salary while Mom stayed home? And how in the world do we get there again?

I am warning ya, David is still just as cute, but it's a little, um..."trippy". Maybe this is how David felt after the dentist gave him the medicine...
A daddy's teachings...

LAST WEEK, I decided that being a Dad was even better than I thought, when I overheard a dad, alone in the grocery store with his fussy 5 year old daughter, dispense with this wisdom in the produce section:

"YA KNOW, MUSHROOMS GROW IN POOP..."

You'd have thought he had said something way more profound and PROFANE, because her reaction was one of COMPLETE shock and disgust..until she went a grabbed a container of pre-packed mushrooms off the shelf and put them in her dad's cart...

Being a dad is THE BEST! You can tell 'em, the brutalest most honest, truths, and they'll still be into it, cuz it came from you, Dad!

Do you have any "mushroom/poop" facts that you've dispensed to your kids? Email me at marc@kix979.com
