I'm a quiet and very sweet girl who can sometimes be shy and nervous when first meeting new folks. If you use a calm and gentle approach, I will soon relax. At first I may roll over a lot on my back. This may mean I'm feeling a little anxious and get submissive when being petted. But other times when I'm feeling more confident, I like to roll on my back and get a nice belly rub.
I'm a pretty Dixie dog. I came from an overcrowded Texas shelter where it was unlikely I would ever be adopted. Preparing to make the trip North, I spent two weeks in foster care. My foster home in Texas said I was crate and housetrained while staying there. They said that once I settled in, my personality just blossomed. Dinner time was my favorite time of day. I even did a little dance while my food was being prepared. How cute! One nice thing about being with a foster family is my new family will have a good idea about me. They also said I like going for short walks and do better with a halter.
The Dakin staff has all kinds of great tips on how to let me slowly acclimate to my new home and overcome my shyness. Praise, treats and lots of positive reinforcement will be very, very good for me.
